Rutherford bombared a thin gold with fast moving alpha particles...most of the alpha particles pass through the foil...some of them were deflected...very few alpha particles were reflected back by 180 degree ...he finds that in an atom there is a tiny positively charged nucleus and the electrons are revolving around the nucleus with high speed....hope it helpful..
