Hey there!

Rutherford's model of atom :-

The Rutherford's model of atom suggested that the plum pudding model of atom by J.J. Thomson was incorrect. He proposed the model of atom in a new way :-

This contained regions of relatively higher central charges concentrated into a very small volume also containing the bulk of atomic mass of the atom. This region was called nucleas of the atom.

The experiment is known as the gold-foil experiment, in which he proposed that nucleas of an atom is tiny and heavy.

He make some use of the the alpha particles emitted by a radioactive element as probes to the unseen world of atomic structure beam of light to pass through a gold foil from which he observed :-

• Most of beams went through the gold foil but few reflected back.

The conclusions drawn from the experiment :-

• positive charge is concentrated on centre, that is, nucleas.

• Compared to atom, the diameter of nucleas is so small.

However, this model din give clear idea about the structure of electrons.

Hope helped.
