Answer:

Explanation:

We know that like charges repel and unlike attract, protons attract electrons and electrons repel electrons.

Suppose an atom and it has n protons and n electrons, then for taking any one of the electron ,

the actual charge felt by that electron is equal to what you'd expect the charge to be from a certain number of protons, but minus a certain amount of charge from other electrons(which shields that electron). This is called screening or shielding effect.

In an atom, the inner electrons(from lower energy states) repel outer ones. this reduces the effective nuclear charge. this effect of repulsion is called shielding effect.

It is sometimes referred to as atomic shielding or electron shielding describes the attraction between an electron and the nucleus in any atom with more than one electron.

The shielding effect can be defined as a reduction in the effective nuclear charge on the electron cloud, due to a difference in the attraction forces on the electrons in the atom.

The example is attached below in picture.

Answer:

Screening effect is also known as the shielding effect.

Explanation:

Screening effect is defined as the phenomenon in which the force of attraction between nucleus and the valence electrons decreases due to the presence of electrons in the inner-shell.

For example:  screening effect is in 'nuclear fission'. In nuclear fission the electrons are removed from the middle of the atom due to screening effect.
