Screening effect with suitable example:
- The outermost electron of an atom is identified as the valence electrons.
- Due to the presence of inner orbitals the force of attraction on these orbitals decreases. This effect is known as the screening effect.
- This effect is increased when the 'number of electrons' in the inner shells within the nucleus and the 'outermost electron' increases.
- The valence electrons experience two types of forces one is the force of attraction from the nucleus and the force of repulsion from inner electrons.
- The examples of the screening effect is in 'nuclear fission' when electrons from the middle of the atom are drawn away.
