Sedimentation is a physical water treatment process using gravity to remove suspended solids from water. Solid particles entrained by the turbulence of moving water may be removed naturally by sedimentation in the still water of lakes and oceans.Sedimentation is the act of depositing sediment.

In this process, the heavier particles which are solid and insoluble in water settle down and the water stands over it. This arrangement is allowed to rest for sometime. The heavier mask that settles down in the bottom of a container is called the sediment. Then Both players are separated removing the top layer by another process called decantation .
