1) Gamete formation
Gametes are formed through meiosis (reduction division), in which a germ cell undergoes two fissions, resulting in the production of four gametes. During fertilization, male and female gametes fuse, producing a diploid (i.e., containing paired chromosomes) zygote.
2) Fertilisation
The fusion of male gamete with female gamete to form a zygote during sexual reproduction is called fertilisation. The zygote grows and develops to form a new baby . The stage of development between zygote and newly formed baby is called embryo.
