Stamens produce male gametes called pollen grains, and carpels produce female gametes called ovules or egg cells inside ovaries. v. Fertilization of the egg cell by the pollen grain takes place in the ovules. vi. The fertilized egg cell later develops into an embryo and the entire ovule gets converted into a seed.
