Both Indian and African pastoralists reared cattle like camels, goats, sheep and donkeys.
2) Colonial rule changed the life of pastoralists as they restricted the areas of grazing and entry into the forests mainly to expand cultivation and to earn more revenue.
3) Various forest acts were enacted and fines were levied if pastoralists entered without any permission.
4) As there was shortage of forage for animals, underfed cattle died in large numbers during scarcities and famines resulting in the deterioration of animal stock.
5) Over the years, they gave up their nomadic life. Some became settled peasants cultivating land, others did odd jobs.
