Explain six arguments in favour of progressive tax system in india
Answers
Progressive taxation is ultimately about income redistribution from those who make more to those who make less in society. It is a political construct as much as an economic one.
If your political belief is that government has a responsibility to help those in need through government programs, then the logical solution is to take money from those who are doing well in society in order to fund programs for those who are not doing as well.
Then concepts such as marginal utility of income can be used to justify a progressive tax code. However, if your political belief lies elsewhere, then a progressive tax code is just another manifestation of what is wrong with the role of government to start with.
economic growth goes hand in hand with political and societal beliefs and tries to build a rational construct to put those policies into practice
