Soil pollution or land pollution results from deposition of solid wastes, accumulation of biodegradable materials, toxification of chemicals into posionous chemical composirions, etc.It has been observed that a loss of 6 million hectare of land occurs per year due to soil pollution.

Soil Pollution causes several diseases in man and animals, eg- Cholera, Dysentery, Typhoid etc.

Soil Pollution is defined as the build-up of persistent toxic compounds, chemicals, salts, radioactive materials,or disease causing agents in soils. This have adverse effect on plant growth and animal health.
Soil pollution is caused by factors like use of chemical pesticides, excessive use of fertilisers, percolation of contaminated surface water to the layers below the surface, oil and fuel dumping, leaching of wastes from landfills or direct discharge of industrial wastes into the soil.
