A solute is a substance which gets dissolved in water or the solvent. For example, salt and sugar are solutes and can be dissolved in the water.

A solvent is substance which is mostly a liquid in which other substances (solutes) can get dissolved. Water is a universal solvent.

here is your answer.....

the substance which is dissolved in the water is called solute...eg.. sugar, salt..

and the substance in which solute dissolved is called solvent..eg.. water.

the mixture of solute and solvent is called solution...
