In India, Poverty is a bigger challenge as India have the most number of poor population in this world.
For that, our government had initiated many poverty alleviation programmes. Some of them are :
☆ MAHATMA GANDHI NATIONAL RURAL EMPLOYMENT GUARANTEE ACT (NREGA), 2005 :
- aims to provide 100 days of wage employment to every household to ensure livelihood security in rural areas.
- It also aimed at sustainable development.
- One- third of the proposed jobs were reserved for women.
- The scheme provided employment to 220 crores person days of wmployement to 4.78 crore households.
☆ PRIME MINISTER ROZGAR YOJANA (PMRY)
- started in 1993
- aim is to create self employement oppurtunities for educated unemployed youth in rural areas and small towns.rural areas and small towns
- They helped in setting up small businesses and industries.
☆ RURAL EMPLOYEMENT GENERATION PROGRAMME (REGP)
- Launched in 1995
- aim is to create self employement oppurtunities in rural areas and small towns.
☆ SWARNAJAYANTI GRAM SWAROZGAR YOJANA (SGSY)
- launched in 1999
- aims at bringing the assisted poor families above the poverty line
☆ PRADHAN MANTRI GRAMODAYA YOZANA (PMGY)
- launched in 2000
- Additional central assistance is given to states for basic services.
