Species

  • Species is defined as "a group of organisms which can potentially interbreed to form a fertile offspring."

For instance,

Two tigers could breed together to give rise to a cub but so can a tiger and a lion, giving rise to a "LIGER."

  • Organisms such as Ligers are termed as cross breeds which are a result of intercourse between organisms belonging to same genus but are different species. But here's the thing, cross breeds are generally sterile, fail to reproduce.

  • Lion which is Panthera leo and Tiger which is Panthera tigris belong to the same genus but some same species, obviously their progeny would be born with some anamolies, as in this case, lose of fertility.
