In many ways, meiosis is a lot like mitosis. ... Since cell division occurs twice during meiosis, one starting cell can produce four gametes (eggs or sperm). In each round of division, cells go through four stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase........✌️❤️✔️

Answer:

Meiosis is a form of eukaryotic cell division. It creates four unique daughter cells each of which have half number of chromosomes as the parent cell. Because meiosis creates cells which are destined to create gametes (or reproductive cells), this reduction in chromosomes numbers is critical - without it, the union of two gametes during fertilization would result in offspring with twice the normal number of chromosomes.
