Answer:

Required value of x is 0.5 and y is 1.5.

Step-by-step explanation:

In the provided figure, ∠EAB = ∠FAC and EF || BC( given ).

Since EF is parallel to BC,

= > ∠EAB = ∠ABC = ∠FAC = ∠ACB ( alternate ∠s )       ...( i )

Also, given that the AD is perpendicular to BC,

= > ∠ADB = 90 = ∠ADC ( right angles ).           ...( ii )

Thus, in ΔABD and ΔACD,

= > ∠ABC = ∠ACB     { from ( i ) }

= > ∠ADB = ∠ADC     { from ( ii ) }

= > AD = AD               { common }

Hence, ΔABD ≅ ΔACD. And by c.p.c.t, AB = AC and BD = DC.

Therefore,

= > 2x - 3 = 3 - 2y  Also  x + 1 = y     ...( iii )

= > 2x - 3 = 3 - 2( x + 1 )

= > 2x - 3 = 3 - 2x - 2

= > 2x - 3 = 1 - 2x

= > 2x + 2x = 1 + 3

= > 4x = 4

= > x = 1

Substituting the value of x in ( iii ),

= > x + 1 = y

= > ( 1 ) +  1 = y

= > 2 = y

Hence the required value of x is 1 and y is 2.
