Calculate oxidation state of each element and classify as reduction and oxidation.
☛ STEP 2.
Divide given redox reaction into reduction half reaction and oxidation half reaction with respect to number of atoms.
☛ STEP 3
Balance oxidation state by adding electrons in case of reduction and loosing electrons in case of oxidation.
☛ STEP 4
Balance change by adding :-
• H+ ion in acidic medium.
• OH- ion in basic medium.
☛ STEP 5
Balance hydrogen and oxygen by adding H2O or water.
☛ STEP 6
Add both the reaction by cancelling of electrons.
