1) they chose majoritarianism,means the majority of population speaking the same language should rule.

2)Sinhalis were in majority in Srilanka.

3)they chose sinhala as their only official language.

4) No other languages should be spoken in Srilanka except Sinhala.

5) the Tamilians opposed this decision.

6) they wanted tamil also to be considered as the official language.

7) but the govt refused it.

8)so,the tamilians wanted a seperate state for them called the 'tamil eelam'.

9) this dispute between language led to a civil war in Srilanka.
