Structure:the cells are usually long, narrow , pointed at both ends and uniformly thickened by the deposition of ligin without any space in between the cells.
Function:it helps to make the plant hard and stiff.

SCLERENCHYMA
This type of tissue is present in stems,around vascular bundles, in the veins of leaves and in the hard covering of seeds and nuts.
CHARACTERISTICS
1.The cells of SCLERENCHYMA tissue are dead.
2.The cells are long and narrow in appearance.
3.Cell walls are thickened due to login deposition,which acts as cement and hardens them.
4.Due to presence of thick walls,there is no internal space between the cells.
