in awadh..the peasants struggle was led by baba ramchandra..he was a sanyasi who had earlier been to Fiji as an indentured labour...here the peasants foght against the talukdars and landlords who demanded high taxes from the peasants....peasants were also forced to do begar and work at the field of the landlord without any payment..the peasants demanded for reduction of revenue..abolition of begar and social boycott of oppressive landlords..in june 1920 jawaharlal nehru went round the village and talked to the villagers about their problems...by october 1920 he formed the oudh kisan sabha..within a month over 300 branches had been set up in the villages..

hello dear

1. Peasant movement was largely against the exploitation by talukdars and landlords, demanding reduction in revenue and removal of begar. Many Panchayats even organised nail-dhobi bhands were they refused any service to the landlords.

 2. Oudh Kisan Sabha was set up by Jawaharlal Nehru and Baba Ramchandra with over 300 branches in the villages. They tried to bring Awadh's peasant struggle within Non-Cooperation Movement.

3. The movement turned violent in 1921. The houses of talukdars and merchants, as well as the bazaars, were attacked and looted. The name of Gandhi was used by local leaders to approve every action like paying no tax.
