1) chain isomerism: no. of carbon in a chain differs

ex, CH3- CH2- CH2- COOH & CH3- CH(CooH)- CH3

2) position isomerism: position of same functional group changes

3) functional isomerism: functional group changes

4) ring chain isomerism: one is ring nd another is in chain form

5) metamerism: arises due to bivalent functional group of either side different no of carbon chain
