Subsidiary Alliance was a political method used by the Britishers to get control over Indian territories. According to this, Indian rules had to keep the company’s army for protection and make their payment, otherwise part of their territory was taken away as penalty. Territories of Awadh and Hyderabad was taken away on this basis.
