Surat split was a division between the two wings of the Congress - Assertives and Moderates. This split was caused due to difference arising out of the decision to expand the swadeshi and boycott movement throughout the country

Muslim league was formed by Nawab Salimullah of Dhaka with an aim to safe guard Muslim economic and political interests against the Hindu majority
