The International System of Units (SI, abbreviated from the French Système international is the modern form of the metric system and is the most widely used system of measurement[citation needed. It comprises a coherent system of units of measurement built on seven base units, which are the second, metre, kilogram, ampere, kelvin, mole, candela, and a set of twenty prefixes to the unit names and unit symbols that may be used when specifying multiples and fractions of the units. The system also specifies names for 22 derived units, such as lumen and watt, for other common physical quantities.

In total there are Four types of System of Units

These are as follows CGS, MKS, FPS and the SI unit.

Explanation of each of the units in detail:

  • CGS -  The full form of CGS is Centimetre, Gram, Second and they are respectively used for measuring length mass and time.

  • The next system of units is the FPS system of units. This is the system of units which has the full form of One Foot, pound and Seconds and is respectively used for measuring length mass and time.

  • The third system of units is the MKS system which has the full form metre, kilogram and second and is respectively used for measuring length, mass and time.

  • The fourth and the last system of units is the SI system of units. It is having a full form of International System of Units and is used to measure very large and very small quantities with ease.

  • Attached below is the picture of some of the SI Prefices that are there.
