Two computers working with different operating systems can communicate because they share a common protocol. the two protocols that are commonly used for working on the internet are Internet Protocol(IP) and Transmission Control protocol(TCP). TCP/IP is used in a private network. It specifies how data is exchanged over the Internet by providing end-to-end communications that identify how it should be broken into packets, addressed, transmitted, routed and received at the destination.

Two protocols that are commonly used on the internet are Internet Protocol {IP} and Transmission Control Protocol{TCP}, especially when references are made to the software needed to establish an Internet connection.

TCP /IP works on the principal of packet -switching. When data is passed from one computer system to another ,it is broken up into many packets using TCP. Each packets contains 1500bytes. IP adds the IP addresses of the sender computer and the destination computer along with relevant information to each packet.
