The human heart has four valves. Two of them are alternately forced shut under high pressure, once every heartbeat. Like a pushed door closing, they vibrate and so make a sound. The lub, the deeper sound, is caused by the larger mitral valve being forcibly pushed shut. That is followed by the smaller aortic valve being forced shut under pressure. The dup sound is higher in pitch, because the aortic valve is much smaller, so like a smaller drum, its resonance pitch is higher.
The other two valves barely make a sound because they close more gently, under about one fifth of the pressure experienced by the mitral and aortic valves.

The first sound "LUB" is produced when the atrio-ventricular (tricuspid and bucuspid) valves gets closed sharply at the start of ventricular systole.
The second sound "DUB" is produced when at the beginning of ventricular diastole, the semilunar valves at the roots of aorta and pulmonary artery gets closed.
