Polar bears live near the Artic Circle which is known for extreme cold, so to survive in the areas near the North Pole, they need to have several physical and anatomical adaptations.
Explanation:
- Polar Bears have low surface to volume ratio, which means that they have shorter extremities like short ears, short tails, etc. which reduces the surface area and hence prevents the loss of heat from the body.
- They have a thick layer of fat under their skin which is called as blubber. This layer of fat, or blubber acts as insulator and hence prevents the loss or heat.
- Their skin is covered with thick layer of fur which again acts as insulator and prevents the loss of body heat.
- They have thick paws which enables them to walk on the ice sheets without any problem and heat lost.
- All of this adaptations help them to survive in the extreme cold of the Artic.
