Due to atmospheric refraction the image of the sun is formed slightly of above the horizon so during morning the sun appears before the actual Sunrise. Same optical phenomena occur during Sunset

Answer:
The difference in time before and after is just 2 minutes.
Explanation:
The time-lapse occurs due to the modification in the atmosphere. The first ray to leave and to enter the earth takes a longest and curved path due to the change in its refraction, which will delay and advance the sunrise. The one who noticed it explained that the ray was slightly higher. In total it increases the day time by four minutes. Refraction occurs due to the numerous gasses present in the horizon.
