Antigens are foreign substances which enters a body evokes immune response. Antigens are found on the surface of red blood cells.
These antigens are oligosaccharides and determines the blood group of an individual. If A antigen is found, then that individual is A blood group, if B antigen found then that individual has B blood group.
Individuals with AB blood group has both A and B antigens. And individuals with O blood group has no antigen on the surface of red blood cell.
Blood grouping plays a key role during blood transfusion and could be fatal if improper transfusion takes place without matching blood groups.
