Antyodaya Anna Yojana isGovernment of India sponsored scheme to provide highly subsidised food to millions of the poorest families. This scheme was developed by the then Union Food and Civil Supplies minister, Shanta Kumar. Under the scheme , one crore member of families below poverty line were identified & were given essential food grains at highly subsidized rate.
wheat was given ₹2 per kg & rice was given at ₹ 3per kg .
The scheme has been expanded with 50,000 families extra twice in june 2003& August 2004 .
