The arrangement of molecules in solids, liquids and gases are as follows :-

  • Solids :- Solids are known for their rigid structure. The rigid structure is because the arrangement of molecules is very closely packed. In solids, molecules don't have free spaces between them and this is the reason why it retains a fixed shape and volume.
  • Liquids :- In liquids, the arrangement of molecules is intermediate between solids and gases. The molecules are loosely packed but not as much as in gases. This is why liquids don't have fixed shape but can occupy the shape of container they're kept in.
  • Gases :- In gases particles are free to move because the molecules are very loosely packed .
