The paragraph basically says that, Michael when he was in high school used to sell newspapers to earn some money. Now most the people who bought his papers were newly married couples (Newlyweds). Now to make his world easier, he went to one of his friends and asked him to give the numbers and addresses of all those who has recently gotten married ( a recent marriage license).

After acquiring the information, he sent a mail to all these people saying that they would get a 2-week free subscription.
