Constitutions are subverted by small groups who wish to enhance their own power.

So, well crafted constitutions fragment or divide power in society intelligently so that no single group can subvert the constitution.

they do this by

1. They ensure that no single institution acquires monopoly of power. This can be done by fragmenting power across different institutions. for eg; our Indian constitution horizontally fragments power across institutions like the legislature, executive and the judiciary.

2. An intelligent system of checks and balances has facilitated the success of The Indian constitution

3. Another aspect is that a constitution must strike right balance between certain norms, values and procedures as authoritative and at the same time allow enough flexibility in its operation to adapt changes for different needs and circumstances.

4. Also a too rigid constitution is likely to break under the weight of change and a too flexible one will give no security or identity to people

Explain the balance institutional design of the constitution

The Constitution of India is a completely balanced constitution. The institutional framework of the Constitution of India can be understood from the formal rules mentioned in it.

The Constitution of India clearly describes the institutional arrangements in legal language. This constitution prescribes a democratic process of electing the people's representatives to rule the country. It strengthens the structure of democracy by giving adequate powers to the highest constitutional institutions of the country. The Constitution of India has ensured the rights and duties of the public representatives to all the institutions and has also fixed the limit of their decision-making power. Apart from this, rights have been provided for the citizens in the Constitution of India, while some duties have also been ensured.
