Answer:

Mothers are great motivators, encouragers and teachers. In the story His First Flight by Liam O’ Flaherty, the mother’s role in teaching the growing babies has been highlighted. The young seagull had fear of jumping from the high sea ledge to fly; his brother and sister had already made their first flight. Everyone was waiting for him to jump and fly and join them on the plateau. He kept sitting on the ledge feeling hungry.

The mother seagull conceived of a plan and executed it. She broke a piece of meat from a fish and flew up to the ledge. But she did not go very close to him. She kept hovering a little away from the ledge. The young seagull in an attempt to take food from his mother, fell from the ledge; this fall compelled him to open his wings. And soon he was flying.

In conclusion we can say the seagull’s mother played quite a pivotal role in putting confidence in the young seagull’s mind to jump from the ledge.
