heya!!
Break down of glucose to provide energy is called Respiration.
These are of two types :-
*** AEROBIC RESPIRATION ***
this type of respiration takes place in the present of oxygen and takes place in mitochondria of the cell.
=> glucose + oxygen ------> Carbon dioxide + water.
*** ANEROBIC RESPIRATION ***
this type if respiration generally takes place in absence or lack of oxygen.
lack of oxygen :-
=>glucose + oxygen = lactic acid + carbon dioxide
formation of lactic acid in muscle cells leads to cramp.
Absence of oxygen :-
=>glucose + oxygen = ethanol + carbon dioxide.
=>it takes place in yeast cell.
=>known as fermentation.
THANKS
