Answer:

The Britisher James Mill divided the Indian history into 3 periods on the basis of religion. The were :

1- The ancient period as the period of Hindus

2- The medeival period as Islamic period

3- The modern period as British or Christians

But this period division was wrong due to some reasons such as :

Though the Mughal had arrived but still there were many regional kingdoms ruled by Rajput kings!!!

Thus it wasn't accepted by Indian historian who later divided the history in a chronological manner :

Ancient, modern and medieval

According to few historians, the British periodization of Indian history was incorrect because in the middle of nineteenth century British historians divided the history of India into three periods:"Hindu", "Muslim" and"British".This division was based on the idea that the religion of rulers was the only important historical change, and that there were no other significant developments- in the economy, society or culture . Such a division also ignored the rich diversity of the subcontinent.
