Belgium is a small country in europe with a very complex ethnic division and composition, borders with france, the netherlands, germany and luxembourg
French speaking community was in minority in capital brussels but they were relatively richer and powerful. The dutch got the benefit of education much later. This led to tensions between dutch speaking and french speaking community.
Composition of belgium- 59 % lives in flemish region and speak dutch
40% live wallonia region and speak french.
Rest 1 % speak german
Case of sri lanka-
Sri lanka emerged as an independent country in 1948. An act was passed to recognise Sinhala as the only official language in 1956, disregarding tamil.
Several political organisations were formed in 1980s, demanding a separate tamil eelam (state) in northern and eastern parts of sri lanka. The distrust btw sinhala and tamil communities turned into widespread conflict, leading to a civil war
