illietracy - Due to the illiteracy of people in India , they do not understand that more than one child in a family can affect the population density of the country. They have a basic belief that more the number of children in a family more would be the income.
Traditional belief - Even in this era most of the people of India have the belief that a boy child is better than a girl child.
This then leads to more than one child in a family.
Sexual desires - The poor and illiterate do not have any other source of happiness other than sex. As they are illiterate they do not know the use of condoms etc. while having intercourse which then leads to more children in a family.
hope it helped you

Causes of Over Population. The two main commoncauses leading to overpopulation in India are: The birth rate is still higher than the death rate. ... The fertility rate due to the populationpolicies and other measures has been falling but even then it is much higher compared to other countries.
