Explain the changes in electronegativity when we move from top to bottom in the same group and when we move from left to right in the same period.

As we go down in the same group, electronegativity decreases.

This is because it increases up to fluorine and decreases when coming down. Positively charged protons attract negatively charged electrons, thus as protons in the nucleus increases, the electronegativity/attraction also increases.

Therefore electronegativity increases when moving from left to right.
