Fair Play Summary

This story is of two close friends Jumman Shaikh and Algu Chowdhary and how is beyond friend ship and enmity. Both get respect in the village due to their strong bond of friendship. Jumman had a aunt who transferred her property to him with the intention of staying with him and he will take care of her. At first all things go well but after few days their behaviour changed towards their aunt. She was no more needed in the house. Unable to bear the insults. Towards showed at her, Aunt decided to have a separate kitchen and asked for her monthly allowance. But he denied, and as a result she took the case to the panchayat.

The panchayat was held one evening under the banyan tree and Jumman wants her aunt to nominate the head Panchayat for he will abide by her decision as the voice of panchayat is the voice of God. Her aunt nominated Algu the head panch. Algu analysed the situation carefully and gave a fair verdict in favour of the aunt. Since that day, the bond of friendship between Jumman and Algu way broken. Jumman become Algu’s enemy and wanted revenge.

Months after Algu found himself in a difficult situation. Algu had a pair of bullock, out of which one died, he sold the other bullock to Samjhu sahu, the village cart driver, on the understanding that sahu would pay the price within a month, but the animal died after some time. When Algu demanded his money, Sahu angrily denied to pay even a penny. Algu decided to take the case to panchayat.

Again Panchayat was held in same place. This time Jumman was nominated as the head of the panchayat by Sahu knowing the enmity between him and Algu. This feared Algu but as soon as Jumman became the head Panch, so he realized the responsibility of his position and took a fair decision after hearing both sides. The decision was taken in favour of Algu Chowdhary.

Jumman and Algu embraced each other and their tears washed away all the misunderstanding between them. Then the bond of friendship was alive again.
