Characteristics of management are:
•Goal Oriented process
Management is a goal oriented process. Every organisation works to fulfill certain goals. These goals must be simple and clearly stated.
A manager gives a common direction to all the other functions of management to work together in the direction to achieve the goals of the organization.
•Pervasive
Management is all pervasive. This means it is universally applicable in all the organizations whether small-big, public-private,NPO-Profit,etc.
•Multidimensional
Management is a complex activity with 3 main dimentions.
-Management of work: Every organisation exist to perform some work.
-Management of people: It deals with achieving goals through people. Management of peopls includes :
= Consulting employees as
individuals
= Consulting individuals as a
group.
-Management of operation : It is the combination of management of people and management of work. It deals with for whom a thing is to be produced.
•Continuous process
Management is a on going process. Every manager performs the function of management on a regular basis.
•Group activity
Management is a group activity. It focuses of giving direction to individual interest of employees into group interest of the organization.
•Dynamic function
Management is a dynamic function. It means a manager has to make efforts to change the working of the business as per the changing business environment.
•Intangible force
Management is an intangible force. This means it cannot be touched or seen. However it can be felt when goals are achieved, workers are happy, growth takes place, etc.
