the French society was divided into three estates. first and second estate included clergy and nobility. third estate was of normal people who included businessmen peasants labours workers merchants lawyers etc. The first and second estate enjoyed many privileges which include the exemption of paying taxes. Only people of third estate paid taxes. Taille was the tax taken by state. Beside this a number of indirect taxes were extracted which included tithe tax collected by the church. The third estate was exploited by first and second estates.
