Answer:
The poem 'Cherry Tree by Ruskin Bond' is about the 'ecstasy of the poet' over a plant which he has seeded 'eight years ago'. It took eight years to grow. In the poem, 'Bond expresses his wonder' at the ways of nature and how it 'takes care of itself to survive against all odds'.
EXPLANATION:
The poet planted a cherry seed eight years ago because he wanted his own crop. The young poet watered it daily, but didn't know that cherry plants requires special attention to become a healthy tree. The poet saw the tiny cherry blossoming out of the ground in late May, given his special attention. It was a 'very small plant', fragile and young, susceptible to all kinds of external dangers. All around it, large wild grasses grew and' goats' ate their' leaves' and one day, the blade of a grass cutter split it apart.
The tender stem also fought bravely against the monsoons and after all of these the poet saw new shoots from the young tree as it fought the nature and vigorously made a upward thrust for air, sun, and light. The poet was able to only wait and watch, and like a miracle, the tree has become too strong to give up. And then, when the poet came to Kashmir to spend a period there, it was time to say goodbye to his beloved tree. After some months in poor health and soul, the poet returned, but he was delighted to find a dark cherry tree tall and 6 feet high at his doorstep
