When we burn fossil fuels like petrol, diesel and coal, they release different types of pollutants like nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, etc.

All these pollutants further reacts with the atmospheric water vapour present in the air to form nitric acid and sulphuric acid.

When rains take place, they come down along with it to produce acid rain.

An acid rain can affect us in the following ways.

(1) They can be damaging for standing crops.

(2) They can corrode buildings and large structures.
