Non Cooperation Movement was called off because of Chauri-Chaura Incident. The chauri chaura incident happened on 5th Feb 1922 in Gorakphur Dist, when a group of protester , participant of Non Cooperation Movement clashed with the local police.
The police open fired on the protester, which was followed by heavy retaliation from the protester, who later ended up burning the police station, Killing all its occupants.
Gandhi led the Non Cooperation movement to protest against the British, for their cowardly act at Jalianwala Bagh of Amritsar. He wished the movement to be violent free, and with the violence being stuck at chauri chaura, Gandhi had no other option than to call of Non Cooperation Movement.

The movement became violent in many places. The chauri chaura incident was one of them where the satyagrahis became violent,22 police men were killed, the station was devastated.
The peaceful satyagrahis were hit badly to supress the satyagrahis.
Therefore the non violent movement turned into a violent one so Gandhiji decided to call off the non cooperation movement.
