The infuriated Third Estate declared them a National Assembly and pledged to disperse only when Constitution for France would be drafted. This would limit the powers of the Monarch. Due to his revolting subjects, Louis XVI had to finally accord recognition to the National Assembly and accepted the Principle that his powers would now be checked by a Constitution.

The important resolutions passed were:

1.The powers that were earlier concentrated in the hands of one person were now separated and assigned to
different institutions – legislature, executive and judiciary.

2. . For the first time, a spark of democracy got ignited. The citizens voted for a group of electors who in turn chose the Assembly. France became a Constitutional Monarchy.

3. Constitution that was drafted began with a Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen. Rights such as the Right to Life, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Opinion, Equality before Law were established as ‘natural’ and ‘inalienable’ rights.

4.The state was given the duty to protect each citizen’s natural rights.
