Answer:
The excavations of the ruins at Harrrapa showed the remarkable skill of its inhabitants in town planning and organisation. The city was divided into two parts-a smaller citadel area coving the western part and a larger residential area to the east. The essential institutions of civic life and places for public rituals were generally located in the citadel area which had defense walls and bastions with elaborate entrances around it.The main streets and the roads were set in a line, someties running straight for a mile, and varying in width from 4 metres to 10 metres. Most of these roads and streets were paved with fire burnt bricks . On either side of the street stood houses of various sizes, but none of them protruded into the streets. The main streets intersected at right angles, dividing the city into squares or rectangular blocks , each of which was further subdivided lengthwise and crosswise into lanes. Some buildings also had lampposts and wells.
