Species is defined as a group of population capable of interbreeding and producing offsprings. It is one of the basic units of biological classification . Each member of the same spices possess common characteristics .
For conservation of wildlife, the United Nation established International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
IUCN identified and classified all the spices according to the threat of extinction. It has categorised the species into three major group, i.e. endargered,vulnerable and rare species.
1. Endangered species :-
These are the plant and animal species less in number and facing a very high risk of extinction .Examples of these species are Asiatic lion, great Indian bustard, Javan rhinoceros, Indian resource, and many more . Immediate step are to be taken for their protection and conservation .
2. Vulnerable species :-
These are the species which are likely to become endangered unless immediate measures are taken against there declining number . Examples these species are musk deer, sambar deer , spotted deer, blackbuck, etc.
3. Rare species :-
These are uncommon and scarce species whose population is very small . Special steps are to be taken for their protection so that they may not fall in the category of vulnerable or endangered species . Examples of these species are wild buffalo, gaur, Bengal fox, marbled cat, and many more.
