Explain the combustion and substitution reactions of carbon compounds
by taking methane as an example.
Write the chemical equations for the above reactions. Can methane be
subjected to addition reaction ? Give reason.​

Answer:

when carbon burn in oxygen to give carbon dioxide, heat and light is called combustion

ex -CH4 + O2= CO2+H2O+heat and light

when more reactive element replace less reactive element is called substitution.

ex- CH4+ CL2 =CH3Cl+HCl(in the presence of sunlight)
