Dandi March was started by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930. It is an important part of the Civil Disobedience Movement. It started from Sarbarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad till Dandi (in Navsari). The movement was started to break the salt law, which was imposed by the British. Mahatma Gandhi thought that salt is a basic ingredient which rich or poor, both need it. So imposing taxes of salt is not acceptable. Therefore, they peacefully protested against these laws. The movement was suspended because of the second round table conference which is also referred as Gandhi-Irwin Pact. There were 11 demands by Mahatma Gandhi in that pact. Later, the movement was finally called off in 1934.

Hope it helps.
