Elasticity measures how stiff or stretchy a material is. one of the most important way to measure elasticity is to calculate elastic modulus. elastic modulus is defined as the ratio of stress to strain.

as you know, stress is not other than pressure e.g., stress is force applied on material per unit area. and strain is the ratio of change in length to original length of material.

so, elastic modulus = stress/strain.
or, elastic modulus = FL/A∆L
where F is force applied on material, L is original length of material , A is cross section area of material and ∆L is change in length of material.

HEY DEAR ... ✌️

=) When we apply an external force upon a body then there is a change either in size or shape or both of the body . This force is called 'deforming force' . On removing it , some of the bodies again aquire their original shape and size . This property of recovering original shape and size is called 'elasticity' .

Hence , elasticity is that property of material of a body by virtue of which the body opposes any change in its shape or size when deforming forces are applied to it , and recovers it's original state as soon as the deforming forces are removed .
